If you're unsure about what exactly a celebrant does, or whether having one is right for your ceremony, these FAQs might have the answer that you're looking for. You can also learn more about what I do by downloading my brochure using the button below or by getting in touch.

  • What exactly is a celebrant?
A celebrant is on hand to host or oversee ceremonies such as weddings, funerals, and other symbolic life events. They do not follow religious customs, meaning that ceremonies officiated by a celebrant are more personal and can be tailored to suit unique characteristics and beliefs.
  • Is a ceremony led by a celebrant legally binding?
A celebrant ceremony is not a legally-binding ceremony. Instead, it is a way to mark an occasion with a personalised ceremony, unique to the person or people involved. Visit the Wedding and Funeral FAQs for more about using a celebrant for these two ceremonies.
  • Which areas of the country do you cover?
I primarily work across Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, and areas of the West Midlands. However, I am more than open to ceremonies in other parts of the country!
  • What are the ceremonies often performed by a celebrant?
Celebrants oversee a variety of non-religious ceremonies, including weddings, funerals, and naming ceremonies.
  • How much do you charge for your celebrant services?
My rates depend on the type of ceremony (wedding, funeral etc) and the location. I charge a rate for ceremonies within 15 miles driving distance of Worcester, where I am based, with mileage charges added outside of this area. I always begin by arranging a free, no obligation discussion with you to learn about your requirements and for you to see if I am an ideal fit for your ceremony.
  • I'm interested in using you for my ceremony. How does the process work?
The process starts with an initial introductory session for you to learn more about what I provide and I can learn about your requirements. This will be a free session, with no obligation to proceed. If, however, you are happy and would like to go ahead with hiring me as your celebrant or event host, I will then come up with a script for your day and arrange another consultation to go through more specific aspects, should it be needed. You will have complete control over what is included in your ceremony and the final say over all elements, including any readings, specific stories to be shared, and other personal touches to make the day special. After your ceremony is completed, you will receive a designed version of the order of service as a keepsake, should you wish.
  • Why should I consider having a celebrant for my wedding?
A celebrant-led wedding ceremony allows you to have greater flexibility and personalisation when it comes to your day. As celebrant weddings are non-religious in nature, you are able to have a ceremony that best represents the love you and your significant other share, without the confines of traditional ceremonies that may not be right for you or your beliefs. As a celebrant, I strive to support you in making what will likely be the most significant day in your life a special celebration. After an initial, no obligation discussion with you and your spouse to learn about what you require, I will deliver an initial script containing stories, readings, and other vital elements to consider when preparing for your day. This will be completely unique to you and your hopes for the ceremony. Celebrant-led weddings can also take place at virtually any location, which means that your ceremony can be at a place that holds a special place in your heart or one that will make your day all the more memorable.
  • Is a wedding conducted by a celebrant legally-binding?
A wedding conducted by a celebrant will not be legally-binding. You will need to visit a registry office or other licensed venue either before or after the ceremony to complete legal aspects such as giving notice and to complete a ceremony overseen by a registrar. This doesn't mean that you can't have a wedding ceremony led by a celebrant, however! This will be your opportunity to truly celebrate your commitment in the way that is most meaningful to you and your partner. it is not uncommon for couples to have a celebrant-led ceremony after the 'official' marriage is completed, with more personal touches and at a venue that appeals more to them.
  • Can a celebrant conduct a ceremony outside or in a unique location?
Yes! Celebrant-led wedding ceremonies can be as unique as you want them to be, including where the ceremony itself takes place. The only consideration to keep in mind is that the ceremony will not be legally-binding; you will need to have a ceremony overseen by a registrar conducted at a registry office or other licensed venue as well.
  • Why should I have a celebrant for my loved one's funeral ceremony?
A funeral ceremony that is led by a celebrant provides an opportunity to give a loved one a personal, fitting tribute that celebrates them and the achievements they had throughout their lifetime. With a celebrant-led ceremony, you have greater flexibility to include more personal aspects to the ceremony, without the restrictions that may occur in traditional ceremones.
  • I would like to read a eulogy. Is that something you can help with?
Definitely. Whether you would like a eulogy drafted for you or some guidance on what you're already thinking of saying, I can support you all the way. Even if you decide not to use me as your celebrant, I still provide eulogy writing as a standalone service.
  • I'm thinking of planning my own funeral. Can you help with this?
Definitely. Even if you just want a bit more information about the different types of funeral ceremonies available or what specific elements you can include, speaking about your thoughts with a celebrant can be a helpful step for both you and your loved ones.
  • I'm looking at putting together a memorial service for someone who has already had their funeral. Can you help?
Absolutely. This could be for a respected and loved community figure, a way of marking the anniversary of a loved one's passing, or paying respects in a more fitting and appropriate way. I will liaise with you and others involved in the planning process to create an event that is a fitting tribute to the person who has passed, ensuring their memory continues.
  • What can a funeral celebrant provide?
A funeral ceremony led by a celebrant allows you to have a personal tribute for your loved one that best represents them and their achievements. Celebrant-led funerals are non-religious, which allows greater flexibility to add those personal messages and memories without feeling restricted by traditional ceremonies. Funerals are emotional occasions, and you may feel there is pressure on you to deliver the perfect send-off. Having a celebrant officiating over the day can help take some of that weight off your shoulders by making sure the ceremony runs smoothly and being prepared to step in should it become too much. As a celebrant, I work carefully to deliver a ceremony that is right for you, taking into consideration beliefs, accomplishments, and anything else that you would like included so that the tribute is in accordance with their wishes.
  • I'm planning an awards night for my employees. Is this something you could host?
Yes! Whether it's to celebrate team achievements or to mark a business anniversary, or something completely different, I can be there to host the occasion and let you enjoy the day with your colleagues.
  • I am planning a charity fundraising event. Can you help wih this?
Absolutely! I can be a host to introduce guest speakers or performing acts, and to ensure that guests know important information about what will be taking place throughout the day.
  • My business is holding a product launch. Would you be able to host?
Yes. I have been the host for a number of launch events and understand the intricacies of what goes into them. Whether it's a large public launch or something more subtle, I can be on hand to help you start your product's journey in the right way.
